Zakat Calculator — Privacy Policy

🟢 The short version: Zakat Calculator has no accounts and stores everything you enter — your assets, your Nisab settings, your Zakat history — only on your device. Two small, anonymous requests leave your phone to fetch live gold/silver prices and currency exchange rates; neither ever includes anything about you. If you turn on iCloud sync yourself, your data syncs to your own private iCloud — never to a server we operate.

1. Information We Collect

We collect no personal information, and there is no account to create. You never provide a name, email address, or sign-in of any kind to use this app.

Everything you enter — your assets across every category, your chosen madhhab, your Nisab preferences, your calculation history — is stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework, with sensitive values also protected by the iOS Keychain.

2. Live Price Data

To calculate your Nisab threshold accurately, the app fetches two live data points from third-party services:

  • Gold and silver spot prices, from Metals.dev — the request sends only a currency code and unit (e.g. USD, grams), nothing about you.
  • Currency exchange rates, from ExchangeRate-API — the request sends only a base currency code.

Neither service ever receives your name, your assets, your location, or any other personal data — just a currency/unit parameter. If either request fails, the app falls back to a built-in reference price so the calculator keeps working.

3. iCloud Sync (Optional, Off by Default)

Zakat Calculator can optionally sync your data across your own devices using Apple's CloudKit. This is off unless you turn it on yourself in Settings. When enabled, your data syncs to your own private iCloud account — it is never sent to a server we operate, and we have no access to it.

4. App Lock

You can optionally protect the app with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode, handled entirely by Apple's on-device LocalAuthentication framework. We never see or store any biometric data — Apple's OS handles it, and only tells the app whether you were verified.

5. Notifications

The app can remind you of your Zakat anniversary and upcoming due dates. These are local notifications only, scheduled entirely on your device — we do not operate a push-notification server, and no remote push is ever registered.

6. Third-Party Services Summary

  • Metals.dev — gold/silver prices (Section 2)
  • ExchangeRate-API — currency exchange rates (Section 2)
  • Apple iCloud (CloudKit) — only if you enable sync (Section 3)

We do not use Firebase, Mixpanel, TelemetryDeck, Amplitude, Sentry, Crashlytics, Google Analytics, or any advertising or attribution network. There is no analytics or crash-reporting code in the app.

7. Purchases

Zakat Calculator does not currently have any working in-app purchases — all features are available at no cost. If that changes in the future, this policy will be updated first.

8. Children's Privacy

Zakat Calculator is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, there is no special risk to younger users.

9. Your Rights

Since we hold no personal data about you on any server, there is nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on our end. Your data lives on your device (and your own iCloud, if you turn sync on) and you control all of it:

  • Delete everything: delete the app from your device; all local data goes with it (and from your iCloud if sync was enabled, via your Apple ID's iCloud storage settings)
  • Turn off sync: Settings → iCloud Sync
  • Turn off reminders: iOS Settings → Notifications → Zakat Calculator, or the app's own Settings screen

If you live in the EU/EEA (GDPR), the UK (UK GDPR), or California (CCPA/CPRA), the above reflects full compliance: we perform no processing of personal data on our own infrastructure, sell no data, and share no data for advertising.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page.
